Doris Y. Gordon, Longtime Party Member and Founder of Libertarians for Life

Doris GordonFrom Stuart Simms and yesterday’s Washington Post comes the sad news that Doris Yetta Gordon of Silver Spring passed away last Monday.  Doris was a longtime Libertarian activist and was active in the state party long before many of our current members had even heard of libertarianism.  In 1976, she founded Libertarians for Life, an organization dedicated to “presenting the pro-life case to libertarians, and the libertarian case to pro-lifers.”  As a self-described “Jewish atheist,” Doris made it one of the hallmarks of her advocacy to present only “scientific and philosophical” arguments for the pro-life position without invoking any religious or moral premises that others might not share.

Funeral services will be held at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD, at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 17, 2014.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Libertarians for Life.
