A special Central Committee meeting will be held on Saturday, March 29 at noon at the home of Stu Simms,  11614 Arden Court in Laurel.  This meeting is for the purpose of nominating candidates who have filed their Declarations Of Intent with the Board Of Elections for the 2014 election.  Following the special CC meeting, the Program Committee meeting will take place, starting at 12:30 pm after the conclusion of the CC meeting, whichever is later.  Notice of the special Central Committee and Program Committee has been mailed to all Central Committee members.

The Maryland LP spring convention will take place on Saturday, April 5, from 1 – 9 pm at Squires Italian Restaurant, 6723 Holabird Avenue, Dundalk, MD.  Speakers include:

  • Michael Cloud: “The Impossibility Trap”
  • Wes Benedict: “Libertarians Rising”
  • Arvin Vohra: LP Social Media
  • Sharon Harris: “It’s A Wonderful Liberty”

The convention announcement has been mailed to all Central Committee members.  Click here for more information.

Shawn Quinn and Lorenzo Gaztanaga were nominated as the 2014 Maryland Libertarian Party gubernatorial and lieutenant-gubernatorial candidates at the Central Committee meeting on Saturday, 9 November in Laurel.  Scott Soffen was nominated as the 2014 Libertarian candidate for the US House seat in Maryland’s 7th congressional district, and Arvin Vohra for the US House seat in Maryland’s 4th district.  Click here for more information on our nominees.

In addition, several potential candidates have filed Declarations Of Intent with the Board Of Elections to get on the general election ballot in November as Libertarians:

  • Leo Dymowski – Attorney General
  • Steven Haddox – US House 8th
  • Ron Owens-Bey – House Of Delegates 45th
  • Dave Sgambellone – Anne Arundel County Council District 2
  • Peggy O’Donnell – Calvert County Commissioners

These potential candidates must obtain the nomination of the party at a Central Committee meeting.  Several meetings will be held prior to the filing deadline.  All remaining filing documents and filing fees are due by August 4.

Some members had let me know that they were unable to register as “Libertarian” at MVA locations in Anne Arundel and Baltimore counties.  I brought this to the attention of the state Board Of Elections, and they said the matter has now been rectified.  If anyone has a problem registering to vote as Libertarian, please let me know.

Be sure to check out the LP Maryland and Young Libertarians of Maryland Facebook pages.

Maryland Libertarian Leo Dymowski, who is seeking the party’s nomination to run for state Attorney General, has been busy–and people are noticing.  The Quinton Report carried this feature yesterday, and the Baltimore Sun‘s Brian Griffiths highlighted Dymowski’s run for the AG slot as part of a “Libertarian Renaissance” in the Free State.  He also recently appeared on Carla Howell’s Internet radio show, Libertarians Working for You.  You can learn more about Leo Dymowski’s campaign at his website, vote4leo.org.
